The Keep

Stretch your brain a bit & enjoy The Keep by Jennifer Egan. After I finished the story, I had a few thoughts. After I 'slept on it' had new thoughts. I would consider this one a modern ghost story. Would be excellent for a group. Quite interesting!!!

Tracy Chevalier

I just finished Burning Bright same author who wrote:

Facinating book written by Tracy Chevalier. In this novel, she writes about the children who inspired William Blake's poetry Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. While I am more familiar with Wm Blake's art -- this was interesting & made me curious to research more of his poetry.

Poof!

Not sure if I can say I like this book. I started it about 10 times and never quite got past the 'blue kite/bully' scene. For those of you who have read this ... you know what I mean.

I started it again ... passed up that part, didn't re-read that bully scene & will see how the story unfolds from there. I know lots of people who keep telling me to 'just read it' ... and there is a new one out by this author, too.

What a week. Dental work on Monday. Car 'stuff' earlier today. New tires on the car tomorrow. There goes the budget ... poof ... money right out of the wallet. How much fun can this SAHM have in a week???? And, NO, SAHM does NOT mean 'stuck at home' OK????

cornbread ...

Tried a different cornbread recipe. I don't have an iron skillet for the kind you put directly in the oven. So, I tried Homesteader Cornbread with a HEAPING Tbsp of Baking Powder. Thanks to Jennifer for providing the recipe link.

(I'll have to find a biscuit recipe ... the boys enjoy them in the morning - but again, I'd like to get away from the ones in the pop-open containers. There has to be an easy to make recipe somewhere.)

I would like to try Basic Corn Bread OR Buttermilk Corn Bread once I get more ingredients. (Williams-Sonoma recipe)
I did purchase new Baking Powder. Notice the difference in the two cans?
The one on the left is cardboard with nutrition facts, etc. The one on the right is tin - no nutrition facts.

Didn't realize I had an antique ingredient in my cabinet!!! LOL
