What a wonderful display of quilts! Such a talented group of quilters! The show booklet was nicely done (excited to find the Erica's coupon, will come in handy this month)
(photo at the top) We sat in on two demos --- the first one was about how to paper piece quilt blocks, great for precision piecing! the other demo was on crayon tinting. We had a simple flower drawn on muslin (freezer paper backing) with pigma pen. The idea is to lightly color with crayons. when you like the result - heat up your iron and press to heat set. Peel off the paper and embroider/embellish the blocks.
Wandered thru the vendors & picked up two needlebooks with leaf prints. They are done with acrylic paints!
Picked out two wool kits/packs to make cupcake pincushions. I didn't buy the instructions; however, Karol looked at the pices & showed me basically how to put it together. Wish me luck.
Has anybody read this book? I'm around page 240 & am just stunned by this story I will keep on reading, but oh my, what a book!
Met up with GFs at Sheep's Clothing, a nice yarn store. Was in the sale section & picked up this Tahki Yarn. I like the colors and the shimmer in the yarn I plan to tat something with it! I realize it will be large - but, unique It is 80% wook & 20% nylon
Boarded the South Shore this a.m. and headed into Chicago w/Alex, youngest son.
We wanted to view the Matisse exhibit before it closed on June 20th. It was an interesting exhibit and showed how Henri Matisse was inspired by other artists & developed his own way of expressing his ideas.
The Sound & Vision exhibit was in gallery 188, Modern Wing - It was unique! On one wall there was a tv set on and when cars zoomed accross the screen, they sounded a musical tone! Each lane of traffic had a unique tone. Traffic as art - awesome.
The Lions at AIC are still decked out with the Blackhawks Helmets.
I have tried two more times to get a simple pink heart completed That reverse work just gets me confused I'll be moving along & all of a sudden .... oops!
Trying again this afternoon
You'd think by now, I'd be able to get a larger bit of tatting completed ...
I'm going to try marking the pattern as I go along and triple counting the rings before closing them
There must be a trick to opening a closed ring - I just get a mess
Meanwhile, I emptied my shuttles & made some smaller motifs for cards (and for friends who requested some! --- I haven't forgotten)
Speaking of series, this is the next one: out in March 2011 Elm Creek
Did I mention winning a contest? Yes, received an Elm Creek Quilts pin in the mail
If you go to the web site & sign in for the reader's circle, there are questions & if you answer correctly, and are chosen, you will have your own pin!
Description Elegance abounds in the graceful loops and whorls of Celtic knots. Part of an ancient tradition, these lovely designs found enduring expression in the Book of Kells, a ninth century illuminated gospel crafted by Irish monks whose Christian mission took them throughout much of the known world at the time. And while the designs themselves are of interwoven knots, tatting them requires only that you master the ability to weave your double-stitched tatting over, under, and around into beautiful patterns. This book includes 12 original designs to try. It is for needle or shuttle tatters.
These are made with LizBeth size 20 (2 on left), DMC Cebelia size 20 (lt pink), and Valdani perle coton #12 (ones on the right)
I tried using size 12 Valdani (perle cotton) on these simple flowers. The perle is soft - but pretty when finished. They are the two on the right in above pic The fiber was pretty worn while making the rings But, I was happy with the end result
Yes, I'm back at this heart again ... I mess it up each time, either a counting mistake or the heart shape is a circle
Took a break & lost my picot gauges Now have new picot gauges & am giving it another try I am determined
I'll try doing all the tatting without taking a break and then will make it lay flat!!!! and look like a heart!
And, was gifted some new-to-me colors of LizBeth size 20 fibers to try ... beautiful colors!
The multi color matches a solid color --- Stay tuned
I made up a
