Catherine Wheel Join - TIAS Day 5 Practice Piece

TIAS Practice Pieces for Day 5

For Day 5 - our pattern had options.   Could use a Lock Join (which I know how to do) -- or a Catherine Wheel Join (which I struggle with every time).

Previous post - I used a practice piece (Lizbeth size 20, Color 122) and tatted the pattern using a Lock Join.   With this piece, I tried to make a smooth Catherine Wheel Join.   Supposed to create a smoother outline on the chain.  Took several attempts for 4 Catherine Wheel Joins (and one lock join).   Just takes too long to do.
Left Catherine Wheel Joins - Right Lock Joins.   Flip a coin.   Meanwhile, there are more parts of the pattern to tat!

TIAS Practice Pieces for Day 5

For Day 5 - our pattern had options.   Could use a Lock Join (which I know how to do) -- or a Catherine Wheel Join (which I struggle with every time).

Pulled out a practice piece (Lizbeth size 20, Color 122) and tatted the pattern using a Lock Join.   Will get out my other practice piece and try to figure out the Catherine Wheel Join.   Supposed to create a smoother outline on the chain.

I'm also thinking my piece should not have scallops!  Probably should be smooth chain.   Can figure it out with another practice try.

TIAS Practice Pieces for Day 4

Once again, stumped.   In Jane's Day 4 pattern, the chains curved a certain way.   Mine curved the OTHER way.   So, un-tat.   (Lizbeth Size 20, Color 125).

Reviewed the Lock Join, in case I wasn't doing that quite right.
Well, I had the join done correctly.

Pulled out day 3 -- and it says DNRW SS --- a ha.   (do not reverse work, switch shuttles)
Guess who was reversing her tatting?

Pulled out my other practice piece and
 I've got it.
(Lizbeth size 20, Color 122).   Time to pull out my real tatting and move along with the other participants!

I still think it is going to be a fish.

TIAS practice piece for Day 2

EDITED 16 January 2023

Looks like Jane has a pdf file.  Might be easier to follow than the video I found on line  -- go to her link re. joining second sides of split ring.

http://janeeborall.freeservers.com/JoinSecondSideSR.pdf

----------------------------
And our tatting game continues.   Jane Eborall provides parts of the pattern, we tat and try to guess what we are creating!

Are you asking yourself "what ever is this"?  Me, too.    Tatted with Lizbeth, Size 20, Color 125)

Before picking up my piece from day one, I made practice pieces.  I wasn't sure about the joins.

I needed to double check how to join / split rings.   You Tube so helpful:

Nice video (above).

To be sure I got it right, tatted another practice piece:

Sometimes tatting with multi color fibers helps with split rings (IMO)
(Lizbeth, size 20, color 122)

Now that I got the joins right -- will pick up my piece from yesterday.

And please follow along on Jane Eborall's tatting game.
