Sharing ...

In October, I participated in the Feast of the Hunters' Moon

I was at the Lafayette Lacemaker booth.   I had a couple easy to tat projects - of tatting edges.     It was a challenge (for me), to use shuttles made out of horn without a hook or pic!    When I needed to join, had a crochet hook made of bone.   I had a 2-shuttle project of split rings and a shuttle + ball of thread for rings/chains pattern.

These are the Tatting patterns I used at the Feast of the Hunters' Moon:

Tatting:   Split Rings

Wind Two Shuttles (CTM*)

Ring:  5 - 5 - 5 - 5 , cl

Split Ring:  5 - 5 / 5 - 5 , cl
Continue split rings until the desired length

* Winding your shuttles with the continuous thread method. (CTM)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tatting:   Ball and Shuttle

Wind shutle, do not cut from the ball of fiber.

R1:  4 - 4 - 4 - 4 , cl rw

Chain:  4 - 4, rw
Rings:  4, join to the last picot of the previous ring, 4 - 4 - 4, cl rw

Continue Chain & Rings until you reach desired length.

Have a great week-end!!

Bobbins at Rest

Where do bobbins rest when not in use?

When bobbins are not in use - they can be stored in a cloth roll-up.

Or a wooden bobbin holder, if bobbins are 'paused' on the lacemaker's pillow.

DIY bobbin holders via knitting (above - wool yarn) , or crochet (below - cotton yarn) pinned to lacemaker's pillow.

A nice pattern (FREE) can be found on Ravelry for the knitted one.
I used Knitted Ribbons, a Knitter Bunny Pattern - Ribbon Three.   Instead of casting on 100 - I cast on 28 which gave me 12 openings for bobbins.  Pattern c.2010 Kelli Slack ~ Knitter Bunny.

The crochet bobbin holder pattern was given to me by a member of the Lafayette Lacemakers.  Thx Carolyn.  Can be found on the Lafayette lacemakers Blog.   https://lafayettelacemakers.blogspot.com/2022/09/feast-of-hunters-moon.html

I also use OUI yogurt containers for bobbins.   They seem to be the right size!   And, a bobbin rack which folds flat when not in use for bobbins that have fiber wound - in the ready to be put on a lacemaker's pillow.

Bobbin Lace: Bauble

This is a class piece via The Lace Museum thru Zoom.     This is one of the Skill Building Workshops for Bobbin Lace.

Pattern is Magic Thread Bauble 2.3
cKaren H Thompson.

For this class piece, I used DMC Perle Coton #5 colors 815, 3688, 818, 733, 611, & 746.   Nice to learn using magic thread technique in place of knots for finishing.

These are two that I finished.   One on right has beads added.  One on left ends with small tassel (which may need some more fibers).   PC #5 colors DMC Blanc and DMC 210.

I started this one with PC #8 colors DMC 340 and Anchor 926.

The pattern can be made up as earrings, pendant, or hanging ornament.
Beads or no beads.  Tassel or no tassel.

Aside from the bobbin lace, there are other virtual education classes offered.   Needlelace, Dorset Buttons, Pattern Designing, etc.

Bobbins ....

Of course, have loads of laundry and my clothes dryer needs to be serviced.

On Tuesday, arranged to use our son's laundry machines -- and his handsome kitty, Apollo, was my supervisor.

I brought some fiber and bobbins - Initially, he was bored and just wanted to keep me company.

Then, he wanted to play!   He had his eyes on the wound bobbins.   Yes, knew that wouldn't work out with him around!
