Just Beyond the Basics: Holiday Edition

Pattern:  Triangular Motif

cKaren H Thompson, 2020

I used DMC perle coton No. 8.  #471 green.   The 2nd little triangle seemed easier than the first one.  Once I finished it, it went missing - and I found it this evening.   It must have attached to the cover cloth or something.   Now I'm more careful to put them in a plastic sleeve.

Pattern:  Candle [More Options]

cKaren H Thompson, 2020

This is the 3rd candle, WIP.   There are three patterns with different color options.  So, the pattern has a total of four candles.   I used DMC perle coton No. 8.  #726 yellow, #321 red.     I hope to finish this one tonight and start the fourth one soon.

Good News - there will be another bobbin lace class in January (and February) with H E A R T S.   Right?   I'm so excited.   These sessions are so helpful - it is wonderful to learn a little at a time, practice inbetween, and look forward to the next project.

I completed my 2nd candle (on the rt).   There are three patterns with different color options.  So, the pattern has a total of four candles.   I used DMC perle coton No. 8.  #726 yellow, #321 red.

I used DMC perle coton No. 8.  #580 green.

During our session, we learned how to finish our candle 'flames' AND for the triangular motif, (holiday tree), turn a corner and join the shape together!   We also used a few of our lace tools, horseshoe - pin pusher and pin puller.   Nice to have a loaded toolbox.    And the green tree has errors; however, I learned a lot and plan to make another one soon.

Better image of the
horseshoe - It is used to keep the fibers
from catching on pins as you turn corners.

If you are interested in learning, the Lace Museum is offering more workshops.   Last time I looked, there were turkish needle lace, beginning tatting, irish crochet,  needle lace, beginning bobbin lace.   Link HERE.

I've learned a lot in the sessions I signed up for.   And, I look forward to the next workshop!   There are always things to learn!

Just Beyond the Basics: Holiday Edition (2nd post)

Pattern:  Fans and Spiders, Holiday Version
c. Karen H Thompson, 2020
I used DMC coton perle No 8.  #580 (green) and #600 (pink).
The lesson was on creating a 'spider' and 'fans' - our instructor provides excellent patterns and instructions.   During the zoom class time, excellent demonstrations and encouragement.

There are wonderful classes available thru the Lace Museum.

This is my 2nd Candle project in progress.   I used the same perle coton DMC No. 8 as the previous candle I created.   #726 (yellow) and #321 (red).

Our next session will be
a shape where we learn to
'turn a corner' and 'how to make a sewing and how to join'

Just Beyond the Basics: Holiday Edition

These are two of my bobbin lace projects
from zoom workshops offered thru the Lace Museum.
Just Beyond the Basics, Holiday Edition with Karen H Thompson.

Pattern:  Fans and Spiders
cKaren H Thompson, 2020

I used DMC cotton perle No. 8.   Colors 600 (pink) 471 (green).   I probably should have used the green in the 'fan' sections instead of making an outline.   Maybe next time.   This is sample made during our zoom lesson - I plan to start over and make the entire pattern soon.

Candle Pattern:  cKaren H Thompson, 2020
adaptation from C.Springett pattern

I used DMC cotton perle No. 8.   Colors 726 (yellow) + 321 (red).
