Aunt's Collar

I tatted the square in Lizbeth fiber, Size 20, Col. 631.

Thank you for asking, yes, I did sew down the tatted edge, and I have been using the roll-up.   So far, the tatting has been ok on the felt.   The tatting pattern is from Jeanette Baker's book, Learn to Tat [Book w/DVD] - Fiber:  Lizbeth, size 80, color 168 Latte Foam.    

These were the 4 samples I tatted - and I liked the Jeanette Baker edge pattern for this project.

I purchased a pre-made roll-up & stitched the linen banding above the felt [now surrounded by tatting].  The needlework is from Homespun Elegance, Ltd. pattern.    More photos and Info in THIS POST.

Tollway Tatters: Diane

This is the beginning of a spinning wheel, design from Tatting with Visual Patterns by Mary Konior.    Started by Diane, who blogs as Lace-lovin' Librarian, using Omega fiber.

 And, before we packed up all our tatting tools, this is what it looked like:

So interesting to see how the different colorways in fibers create a secondary pattern!!!   This fiber and design will be a winner once finished.

In addition to the lovely tatting, Diane is weaving bags!    Her Mom gave her a saori loom for her birthday ... when she arrived at the Tollway Tatters gathering, she brought a large shopping-bag size FULL of woven bags.   Each creative and special - all made with an original pattern designed by her Mom.     And, yes, she is selling them.   Not sure how she can part with all her lovelies ... but, there you have it .... look at the bags:

  

  

Haven't seen enough bags?   Take a peek - HERE, for more photographs !!!   See one you just HAVE to own?   Contact Diane.   I had such a good time pulling out her bags and taking pictures.    I ended up with my tatting in a knotted HEAP - oh no - oh yes, but, with patience, all became unknotted + I have become closer to finishing my edge.

Never leaving empty handed .... or, shall I say, 'so spoiled I stink' ....     

 What cool blue HDT do you see?    Yes, gifted by Marilee, aka Yarnplayer.   I have ideas for the blue.   Her colors are fabulous.   What inspiration for tatters.  

And Diane brought along a container of blinged shuttles for all of us to choose favorites!!!   Diane has that eye for embellishing shuttles, all so colorful and fun.   Want to see more?   Look on Diane [Lace-Lovin' Librarian]'s blog under shuttle bling or blinged shuttles .... very festive.  

 
 Both of the shuttle sides are decorated + have a sparkle, glitter in the seal.   These bad Boyes are in tip top shape.

my first doily

Used size 20 Cebelia. Will attempt to block later today.

Learn How to Tat
by Janette Baker.

Being new to tatting, I wasn't able
to figure out the entire Daffodil Doily
(recently, I realized there is a corrected pattern on her blog).

I went to the public library book sale + found
Anna Magazine, May 1991 -- which had a similar doily.

I used the outside edge of the pattern in the magazine
and got lost along the way. Those joins were just
not easy for me to figure out - and the reverse work
was new to me. Had problems just holding on to the piece!

Yet, beginners need to start someplace, I had the book + tried the lessons (kinda in order)
and practice and practice and practice.

Overall, I learned to stick to one pattern,
tat until it is finished, not set aside for months + forget how to pick it up again ---
get the fiber tighter when reversing -
still find flipping the thing over a challenge,
think the picot gauges help --

Not sure I will attempt this pattern a second time.
Practice pieces are a good thing

It is time to move along to other patterns,
ie. hearts, bookmarks, ornaments, edgings.

And beads,
and jewelry,
and a fancy butterfly pattern I found in Workbook Magazine.

International Tatting Day

Hello, today I'm celebrating
Tatting Day

GF, Southpaw Stitcher
pointed out how tatters have a good sense of humor, selecting April Fool's Day
-- I think tatters celebrating with chocolate + tatting for the day just ROCK!

I've had a few things out ... sorted thru my crochet hooks + shuttles.
Rounded up my crochet fiber, they end up all over the house.

Needed to empty a few shuttles - practiced the split ring,
shoe lace to switch threads, and continue to have problems
getting both sides even. So, I cheat. Make one side with an extra DS.

This is tatted with Tahki Yarn
80% wool, 20% nylon (My guess is that it is similar to a size 10 fiber)

I did
finally spend enough time to
figure out
this pink project

I started it awhile back, set it aside,
and couldn't figure out where I left off + how to pick it up to finish.

Lesson learned: don't set it down --- just get it finished!

I'm planning to finish the outside edge tonight.

This is my FIRST doiley. The middle part is from Learn to Tat ... now, I am trying to get this pretty edge added - found pattern in an older magazine. I have the pattern memorized & it is going well ... so far. The tatted piece will be about 7".
