restless + wandering

Woke to a gloomy, overcast, rainy morning.
Matched my mood, oh so blue.
I couldn't stay home.
Didn't have it in me to be in the house all day long.
Grabbed my i-pod loaded with new music from DD.
(Pink, Shakira, Burlesque sound trac, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Bruno Marz, Glee)
Grabbed DS's camera + started out of the house.
Drove thru rain, sleet, snow flurries.
Ended up in Indianapolis, IN (yeah, I know!)

Toured Madeleine Albright: Read My Pins exhibit.
Guess what? The book photos don't do the pins justice.
They are mounted + have tons of information.
I was touched viewing the Katrina Pin
which I heard about in a cbs interview.

And, Andy Warhol Enterprises exhibit was fun!
Loved the wall of portraits - from Interview covers.
Even had a Michael Jackson.

Swung by a couple of my fav paintings,
bought a Marilyn Monroe pin (how could I not?)
+ headed home, spirits soaring.

Knew the lace exhibit was closing on Friday.
Stopped at Lafayette Lacer's Exhibit in Lafayette.
I enjoyed it today as much as I did
when with GFs (on our road trip).
The tatted ornaments on the tree are fabulous.
Oh, if only I had that much talent - will keep practicing!

I came home to happy pets +
plan to finish reading Madeleine Albright's book.
It was interesting reading, but now that I've actually seen the pins,
the book is even better.

Yesterday, I finished The Swan Thieves.
Some gave iffy reviews, I enjoyed it.
It was a complicated love story.
Real love, with real issues and complications.
I enjoyed the characters, the inspirations, the artisist in all of us can celebrate.

Road trip w/GFs

Enjoyed our road trip to West Lafayette.
Thx to Beth (w/o blog) for driving. Beth + Karol, picked me up, we met up with Deb and left the rainy/cloudy weather behind us. Drove south to crisp, sunny weather!

First stop was the Tippecanoe Arts Federation for the:
What a lovely exhibit!
The Lafayette Lacers had wonderful displays of lace including knitting, crochet, hardanger, bobbin lace, tatting (and probably I'm forgetting others).
The holiday tree was full of beautiful lace ornaments!
Stunning mini-tat motifs and angels (and more). Spectacular.

In addition to the lace, there were other galleries with exhibits. This is a card available at the gallery:

Accross the hall, the Tibetan Monks were creating a sand mandela.
One of the monks demonstrated how the sand mandelas were made with sand.
When I tried, I got 'dots' of sand, not the consistent lines of color!
They had a few small items for sale:
The deconstruction ceremony is on the 20th.

Second stop on our road trip was
Von's Beads, gifts, book store, etc.
We enjoyed browsing the beads, books,
gifts, gems/rocks, etc.
I found some nice cards + small stone for DS.

In the lower lever, I found a small paperback:

Samplers by Donald King c.1960
It is a nice book with b/w
sampler photos.
I haven't read the essay in the front.
There is minor wear to the corner,
otherwise is in great condition.

Before heading home, swung by the
Triple XXX Family Restaurant
for root beer + a burger.
I tried this one (from their menu):
Duane Purvis All-American - A very special taste treat!
1/4 lb. of 100% ground sirloin served on a toasted sesame bun with melted cheese on top with lettuce, tomato, pickle, Spanish onion and French fries. Add thick creamy peanut butter on the lower deck and you?re in for the touchdown!

Had no room for the Purdue Sundae - butterscotch & fudge ... maybe next time.

Headed home, chatting all the way with GF Deb, Karol, + Beth. What fun. Let's plan another road trip - SOON!

today is Button Day!

Per Holiday Insights web site

Button Day (always on Nov 16th) is a fun day to collect, use, and just enjoy buttons. Button come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors and designs. There is an amazingly endless variety of buttons for your collection.

But, wait a minute.... is that the meaning of this day!? Maybe, the purpose of this day is to wear buttons. You know, those diverse buttons that send a message for political purposes. Or, ones that have funny sayings. Or, a button with a smiley face to cheer everyone up.

The origins of this day are unknown. So, we can't be certain to the real meaning of this day.

And, that could be a good thing. It means you can celebrate today in anyway you want. Here are our suggestions. I suspect you may have more.....

Button Collecting and Display Day - collect and display clothing buttons
Button Up Day- 'cuz it's cold outside!
Pushing Your Buttons Day - you're kidding me, aren't you!?
Belly Button Day - now, here's one that could be real fun
Belly Button Fuzz Day - it's amazing what you find in there.
Wear Buttons Day - skip the political buttons. My favorite is a Smiley button.

However you choose to celebrate, have a Happy Button Day!

reading and punching

Slay It With Flowers
by
Kate collins

I'm reading the 2nd book in the Flower Shop Mystery Series.
The first book was Mum's the Word.

I am trying to get thru Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper.
I get thru another chapter and
just put it down. I cannot
imagine going thru anything like that.

Cat
Lizzie Kate
Halloween Hang Ups 2

I couple weeks ago, I met up with a NANI
friend, Diana, at the public library
and we did some punch needle.

I'm still punching Halloween
designs + need to see if I have
any Autumn or Christmas
designs (with fibers)
in my stash.

Punching is so quick
compared to stitching.

I enjoy it so much ; )
