knitting spools
Yes, these are spool knitters. If you like them (I find them hard to resist), there is a nice Spool Knitter Blog you might enjoy browsing. And, if you are not familiar with these 'toys', there is a pretty good post on The Blue Blog that reviews the different varieties. Link Here
And if you wonder what on earth you do with them:They make a round cord. Nice way to use your odd pieces of yarns, fibers (ie crewel pieces), etc.

When I was young we used to make "knitting bobbins" using wooden cotton reels with 4 or 6 nails knocked into the top. We called it French knitting. I have never seen it done for years so would be interested to see what you make.
Hi! Thanks for the link.
I am hoping to publish a book about the collection and include patterns too. I am aiming for this to happen sometime this year - fingers crossed!
Hi Lelia and thanks for entering my drawing. You have a great blog! As a kid, I always wondered what those spools were for! Now I know and will have to try it sometime. Yours, Emily
Hi again! I tried to email you but for some reason it wouldn't send so I am leaving another comment.
Yes, it is a big question about what to do with all this cord but I want to keep my ideas quiet for now for what I have planned.
There are patterns on the internet like for jewellery and such. Take a look at the links on my blog to start you off - http://spoolknitter.blogspot.com
- Have fun!
