Clover Japan

I used a winter white fiber (I don't know - was left over on a shuttle)
and Oren Bayan Dantel "50" No. 579.  plus white 6/8 bead.

From this 22 page book:

Can see these flowers in photo, back cover of the book.   Or below, part of the photo inside the book.

This took much longer than I
anticipated!

Tatting WIPs

Tatting in progress.    Patterns c.2014 Robin Perfetti.

These are First Snowfall
and Design Tutorial Snowflake.

Her Tatting By The Bay blog is wonderful.
Her books are great -- check out her site ; )

I think the fiber is size 20, color ecru - I cannot find the fiber & label.

On round 2.   The Josephine Knots look like tatted rings.

Practicing thrown rings.  Have not done them for awhile.

Found this kit - and the fiber is smaller than I'm used to.   It is a Clover Japan kit.  Instructions have clear photos.  I've made a mistake already - time for a do over.

New stuff!!!

They are HERE!   They are HERE!
New Clover (Japan) tatting shuttles.
They have different hook sizes to accommodate different sized fibers.

They come with little plastic pieces to protect the hook.  Yes,
they seem to have thought of everything.   Regular shuttle next to them so you can see the size.

 Compare Clover to AERO ---

No. 8 (0.90mm) and No. 12 (0.60mm)

VIDEO:

These I've had - and use all the time.

New tools, and new books ....

The one on the right, by sumie, was picked up while shopping with our youngest son, at Mitsuwa Market.  When we shop there, occasionally, I'll find a tatting book on the shelves.
I like smaller motifs & this book has many.  Plus, a lovely cross (back cover).

The one on the left, applemints:  Tatting Lace accessory and motif, was a purchased
It has pretty tatted jewelry.   And, if not made into jewelry, tat the small motifs (which I like).
I saw this book once, and didn't buy it at the time.
Of course, kicked myself for not grabbing when I had the opportunity.

International Tatting Day

April 1st is the International Tatting Day

Tatting is the skill of making delicate, elegant, tatted lace.

It is enjoyed by thousands of people.

On this day, "tatters" around the world have different activities, mostly educational, to celebrate their hobby, and introduce it to others.

shuttles and notions

Edited .....

I have not done much tatting.    The above photo are practice pieces / motifs, patterns handed out for the IOLI Tat-Off (Indianapolis, IN).   There were three patterns on the page, for three categories:   tatting over 5 years, learned how to tat today/tonight, and split rings.   (I think that was what they were - I may be mistaken).    I made and donated the prizes, and was over-the moon when the owners of Black Sheep at Orenco added to them.   I didn't participate in the tatting.   I did help with the split rings.   Hands on refresher and then Kelli started the stop watch -- and yes, we had winners!   I am gobsmacked by the different ways people tat - and how FAST some people tat.   I'm just a snail!!!

Check out Kelli's post and photos:

I Emceed the Tat Off - Link Here.

Below:  A lovely Clover, Japan, necklace kit.   I adore their kits - pattern, fibers, findings, shuttles -- looking forward to creating this piece.

Above:  While my sister visited this summer, we went thru antique malls - many of them!   We had such a good time browsing the vendor booths.   I spotted some small containers & yep, they were for tatting.   Vintage J P Coats containers for tatting fiber, Tat-It.   I found 3 with some old balls of fiber for $2.  yes, I know.   What a find.

The shuttle (above) is new.  Shuttle by Design.     I wanted this one because of the lace design (both sides) AND it matches a small dish I own.   I try to pick up small dishes for pins and orts, this dish is for the shuttle.    The others I bought (below).

notes

This is a first attempt at a Clover Brand tatting pattern - purchased online from Etsy, seller in Japan.  I used a lovely HDT made by Marilee Rockley aka Yarnplayer, to test drive the pattern.   I think I've gotten the hang of the pattern.
 Pattern 79-878 (one of 3)

These are photographs of the front and back of a kit.   Aren't the Chocolate and Milk color shuttles unique?  I hadn't seen those colors before.   The kit has fiber, pin, ring, shuttles, and two large pattern sheets.   Beautiful package.

Sunday, I went to the Doll + Bear show.  My MIL's doll needed shoes.   I did find shoes and socks for her doll - and a charming new dress for my Penny Wooden Doll.  The tatting is lovely on the dress.  I have three of these tatted dresses made from handkerchiefs.   Others pictured HERE.
