LNS now closed...

Always a sad day when the local knitting store goes out of business.

When GF, Sue, and I visited on Wednesday,

found some fibers.

And other goodies.

Now a cover for my bobbin lace pillow on the

lace stand.

Colorful crochet/knitting cotton.   For dishcloths, dish dresses or buttons.

I've really enjoyed wrapping fiber

around rings and creating

some interesting buttons / ornaments.

Depending on the size of the ring or mould,

crochet cottons work well : )

I have no idea what this will be!!! We will be using our darker fiber for the next day's clue.

Jane has us all guessing!  

I tatted the Button Lamb (again).    The first one I tried, Link HERE.

I used Lizbeth fiber, size 20, color 168.  3 beads, + 7/16" button.

I used Lizbeth Size 20, Col. 168, 7/16" Button, 3 beads.

Edit:   When I tatted the lamb, in the 12th Ring, there was a "DPB" - at the time, I didn't know what that meant.   Looked it up:   DPB=Down Picot w/Bead.    OK, now I know!    

DPB= Make the first half of the double stitch twice

Then a picot with a bead on it

then the 2nd half of the double stitch twice.

Pull the picot forward and down to place the bead on the inside of the ring.

The next one I make may have a different look ; )   ----- EDITED 8 Feb 2021

Tollway Tatters

Last Friday, the Tollway Tatters gathered.  Please visit Lace-Lovin' Librarian (blog) for more info and photos.   It is a fun, creative time with oodles of chatting,

sharing tatting fibers, sharing glass pieces for tatted ice drops (my color selection tripled), gifting hand made tools (see the needle w/tatted tail for un-knotting), sharing charms,

talking about the latest shuttles (ie Clover Japan, acrylics by Rita, shapes, sizes) ,  snacking, and gifts!!!  

 Sunlit shuttle embellished by Denise.    Had been in a copper color 'egg' container w/goodies.

Nice to catch up on the news and always ...  tatting.  For me, emptying shuttles.  

Lace-lovin' Librarian aka Diane, put several origami pouches together (rainbow of colors) a few years back.    She thought we could embellish them with tatting!      I selected a green one, and realized, once home, that I gift most of my tatting and didn't have much for the bag ; )

    Fast forward . . . when my MIL passed away, she seemed to keep all the tatting I ever made for her in small frames and a special box (I stitched the top).    First Step pattern is by Genny Morrow.

I pulled out the origami pouch, fused the tatting, added a (made by Diane) crochet button, a few beads and charms ... and before I knew it, the whole thing was covered!

On April 7th, I went to the International Quilt Festival. The quilts were incredible!  

Beautifully / artfully displayed.     Among the cool things in the many booths ...  I purchased 2 beige shuttles ... 

they were pretty scruffed and dirty w/awful gritty fiber.    So, I cleaned them up a bit!    

    I also found a vintage pattern book.

need to get a few 'promised' items made up and mailed this week.   Happy Spring.

Tollway Tatters

As fun as it is to read updates on Diane's blog - and watch this masterpiece grow larger and larger - we all had quite a treat to see it in person!   Delicate and perfectly tatted.   Follow along in her blog space Lace-Lovin' Librarian.

In addition to the Jan Stawasz project pictured above, Diane also brought along this colorful project --
 Renulek's tat-along doily.

 The charming buttons (below) were made by Diane.  
She had oodles of them in her button tin + kind enough to share with all of us.   I adore the 6-petal and 5-petal buttons.   Easier for me to attempt with samples in hand of buttons in various sizes !!!

Froggers:     These are tatted doodles embellished with beads.   Have a crewel needle attached.  Begin with size 10 fiber and see what small tatting you come up with.

Sue Anna brought supplies for us to experiment with!!!   Nice lace pins for "rip it, rip it" -- thus, called froggers.  

 I brought some needles and berry beads home to create some more.   They are quick tats and fun - nice way to use up bits of fiber and misc beads.  

 Have you ever seen such yummy colors???  Oh my, Marilee's (Yarnplayer) HDT are wonderful.   The colors are vivid and fiber great to use.   Could not resist a shopping spree.   Head on over to her blog for her snowflake pattern.

Carrie, blogging at Just Give Her some String, shared a container of flatwear / utensil pieces which she obtained from an artist.    The idea is to tat something unique with the openings in the pieces.   Unusual and original!!   I just liked this handle - have not been inspired (yet) to create some kind of free-form tatting.   I'm sure it will come to me soon ... stay tuned

I brought along some zipper pulls to share with the Tollway Tatters.   I continue to empty shuttles of bits of fibers and these are fun to make, just add a clip to the top ring and can hang on a bag, zipper, handle, anywhere a tatted embellishment would be welcome!

 I read on Jane's blog that she had 90+ photos of tatted scissor motifs.    I'm seriously thinking needle book cover embellishments.   I think they would be perfect for that.

Local Quilt Show ....

Lovely finds in the "Garden Maze of Vendors".     Petals + Blooms web site link here.   I bought some 12 wt Sulky, needles, and a vintage hanky with tatted edge.  I probably should have picked up a spool of blue thread, too.   maybe next time.     Diane, blogging at Lace- Lovin' Librarian, was the first person I know who tatted with this Sulky fiber.   More on her post - link HERE

One of the vendors had closed a store 16 years ago.   Was an area of nostalgia!  I selected a charming sunbonnet sue pin.     Got to talking and she said she had a couple shuttles in a 'special bag'.  Not on display, under the table, behind the drape.    She gave them to me!   These shuttles are happy in their new home - Susan Bates [C J Bates + son Chester CT]and "Boye" improved.   [The Boye Needle Co. Chicago].

So many beautiful quilts - these were my favourite BLOCKS:

This, my favourite quilt - Ewe-Niquely Baltimore.   Sign said it was a Block-of-the-month - made in wool.  Very unique and lovely.   Also was given a special award from judge.  

 Thx Karol and Candy for meeting up with me.   I know I'm a snail when looking at everything.   You are both very patient and kind.
