I didn't know .... that Clover made these smaller size clips.

I had the Jumbo clips, and the Medium sized clips,

but this smaller size, recently acquired,  -- they are THE BEST.

Who knew?  My third helping hand ...

I have not done much tatting.    The above photo are practice pieces / motifs, patterns handed out for the IOLI Tat-Off (Indianapolis, IN).   There were three patterns on the page, for three categories:   tatting over 5 years, learned how to tat today/tonight, and split rings.   (I think that was what they were - I may be mistaken).    I made and donated the prizes, and was over-the moon when the owners of Black Sheep at Orenco added to them.   I didn't participate in the tatting.   I did help with the split rings.   Hands on refresher and then Kelli started the stop watch -- and yes, we had winners!   I am gobsmacked by the different ways people tat - and how FAST some people tat.   I'm just a snail!!!

Below:  A lovely Clover, Japan, necklace kit.   I adore their kits - pattern, fibers, findings, shuttles -- looking forward to creating this piece.

 Above:  While my sister visited this summer, we went thru antique malls - many of them!   We had such a good time browsing the vendor booths.   I spotted some small containers & yep, they were for tatting.   Vintage J P Coats containers for tatting fiber, Tat-It.   I found 3 with some old balls of fiber for $2.  yes, I know.   What a find.

The shuttle (above) is new.  Shuttle by Design.     I wanted this one because of the lace design (both sides) AND it matches a small dish I own.   I try to pick up small dishes for pins and orts, this dish is for the shuttle.    The others I bought (below).

I was interested in the picots on corners.  Bought the booklet from etsy seller in Japan.

I received this nice sample from Handy Hands.   The Helping Hands Newsletter had oodles of tempting patterns.  lovely tatted edges.  

I found this pattern book at local antique mall.  I struggled w/medallion pattern on pg. 14.  The photo is not clear.  Seems the number of ds changes in the pattern - even tho the motif looks like it should repeat.

This pamphlet is listed on the Antique Pattern site - however, there are no scans of the pages.  This is a diagram I made up.

I tried tatting with the different ds counts - and it was a challenge.    It is supposed to be tatted w/size 70, I used Lizbeth size 20-color 168.

When I tatted again, I alternated the different ds counts and used lizbeth size 80.

I used five different gold fabrics to create this lovely flower.

Added an easy tatted motif (pattern below) + secured w/button.

I like this lavender material so much - the photo doesn't do justice

to the lovely color and charming motifs.

This is a pattern sheet I created with some easy-to-tat motifs.

I like to make them and use them on the kanzashi flowers.   I tried to make

the lettering darker.   

I enjoy making Kanzashi flowers (w/templates by Clover) and adding

tatting to decorate.    I like to secure w/button or a fabric yo yo.

(middle flower has motif #8 from Mini Tats book).

Clover's Kanzashi Flower Maker(s)

The 6-petal flower is made with Clover's Kanzashi Flower Maker
round petal, small size

Each petal is made with the
plastic shape and strung along on the thread ...

... until you have enough petals.

The centers are to be embellished by a yo-yo or button.

I've been using a 100% Glace finish Cotton Quilting Thread
from Coats + Clark.

Once all the petals are on your thread, you can adjust the tension in between the petals.

They don't take long to make and instructions are great!

The 5-petal flower in the first photograph is
pointed petal, small size, my first attempt with flower maker.
