Spring

(We are grateful.  The storms in our area were south of us & we have no damage.)

Had this out at the public library & didn't get much weaving accomplished.   Did not find any mistakes tho ...

The kit has fiber; however, I'm using Lizbeth, Size 20, Col. 159 & Col. 646 -- the kit comes with white fiber to complete four patterns.

Kit includes custom loom, needle, fiber, + four patterns/instructions.

This is an incredible book.  82 pages - and spiral edge.  Clear diagrams & lovely projects.  Charming cover!

I have had our 16mo old granddaughter here q o week.   Wow.   Never a dull moment! Lots of closed doors, putting things higher up!  Overtired once she is back home.   She will be back here on the 23rd.  Not much tatting to report.    Did manage one angel wing -- and will launch the 2nd wing!   One day I will have a completed angel.

IMO - you need to have on hand:  scissors, tape measure/ruler, scotch tape.   I like to have (nearby) pin cushion, needle threader, stiletto, post-it note, & longer needle.

Misc.

My friend gave me these two vintage Weave-It looms.
I enjoy looms / yarns.

I have a bag in the works - which I forgot about until I was gifted the two looms.   Had a hunt, and it was in a project bag.
Made with a zoom loom.   Tolt Folded Bag pattern.  I need to add a handle.  I've had this WIP for awhile!

Part of a blog post 3/27/2022:
This project, I found in a box.   I won a Zoom Loom and 3 balls of yarn.   Made the squares, and somehow put it away - never put it together.   I think, not sure, that it was a giveaway thru Facebook.  Schacht Spindle Co & Classic Elite Yarns.   My plan was to sew the strips together and fold them into a Tolt Folded Bag.   So I hope to get the 3rd row of squares put together & now that I found the ball of yarn, can sew the 3 rows together.   Fingers crossed this works.

----------------------------------------------
I found this in my "travel bag".  Met up with friends and put in some of the weaving.  Spinning Star.   A very nice kit - and I switched the kit fiber with Lizbeth fiber.  An excellent to go kit.

Added border pattern to large circle of the Nanduti 1 projects.  Lots of knots.  Homework complete - ready for the 4th session.

I've been using DMC coton perle, size 12.

Blue 794, Gold 676, Green 928 + 503, Lavender 3042, Rose 316.

The kit has fiber; however, I'm using Lizbeth, Size 20, Col. 159 -- the kit comes with white fiber to complete four patterns.  When the colors in the fiber changes it creates a striped look.  Maybe would be better with a solid color after all.

The pastel colors in the spokes and knots are ok -- maybe I should have changed to a solid color for the needle weaving.

On the table . . .

Doing a couple of things yesterday/today -- first, trying to
create templates from E Z Quilting (brand) Template Plastic.
I tried before by using a bobbin lace pricker (tool),
then used hole punch.   It distorted the plastic.

This time, I used a marker on the plastic,
cleaned off my hole punch tool - and had better (not perfect) results.

Good for practice pieces.  I'm learning how to keep the Oya 'flat'.  Similar to issues I've had with tatting - I want to avoid cupping of the projects. (not familiar with cupping?   visit Muskann's blog post  https://tipsaroundthehome.blogspot.com/2021/12/cupping-hearts.html.    Going around the template is new to me!  Stay tuned.

I put in a few rounds on the EGA GCC Beginning Teneriffe Lace.  (Largest piece in the center - top) Using ecru No. 70 DMC Cordonnet Special.   Knotted, snagged, twisted.  I ended up cutting off some of the fiber to make the length easier to deal with.   And found a longer needle to use for the weaving.   Next round - knots.

I'm so used to using perle cottons & size 20 Lizbeth - using the finer fiber is new to me.   (the other pieces in progress & finished Joan Brash's Teneriffe Kits.).

Air quality is better today (Canadian Wildfire smoke in the area), taking a break for a bicycle ride!

accomplished during today's needle lace zoom!!
I started the sampler (photo on right of finished piece)
and will complete it in four sessions.  Next session will be the next three rectangles. (filling)

I am using Lizbeth, Size 20, Col. 601 for the outline --

I really should have used a different color paper/card stock for the pattern!!!    Challenge to use white fiber on white pattern.

Preparing for bobbin lace Rose for Kalofer session on Thursday.   Prep for needlelace and bobbin lace is time consuming.  Stay tuned.   The bobbin lace flowers/rose are part of a community lace project for the 2025   OIDFA Congress in Kalofer and Karlovo, Bulgaria.  Also, https://lacechallenge.internationalorganizationoflace.org/lace-challenge/lace-challenge-11 Lace Challenge #11 for I.O.L.I.
I am grateful to Joan Brash for her pattern and sessions thru the Lace Museum.  I'd like to finish the sunflower this summer, too.

Needle Lace Sunflower

I've picked up this project a few times.
Have made some practice pieces.
Started out with size 20 fibers
& really didn't care for the outcome.

Picked out some size 40 fibers and
giving it another go.

 Practice pieces.

 Started with the sunflower center.

So not perfect; however, I like the way it spirals.
Lizbeth size 40 - Col. 697.

Now on to the petals.

Kit included EVERYTHNG. (Excellent) Instructions, Teneriffe Loom,
DMC Coton Perle 8, Col. 972, Lizbeth, Twirlz, Monarch, Czech beads,
Needles, Filament for beading.   Joan's kits are wonderful.  When I visit her site, I want to purchase all of them.

 pretty with the beads ...

There are so many lace sessions to choose from.
Check them out, here:   https://thelacemuseum.org/virtual-education/.

------------------------------------------------------

In response to question, I did hope to put
sunflowers into a shadow box.   They sell them at Michael's (perhaps other places).

I have sunflowers completed, I have partial sunflowers, and instructions/patterns to launch.

I want to do the Endruck's sunflower - another link here, finish my beaded lace bobbin with sunflower pattern,  needle lace sunflower, zwirnknopf button set, small grapevine wreath, and (floral) buttons.

I also have some tatted stars and needle lace stars in the works. And a bobbin lace star (design by Karen Thampson) on Alex Stillwell's Wordpress Site.

I don't know what other artists do with their lace - I usually give most away.   Recently, though, I have had a 'theme' of sunflowers in different patterns that I'd like to arrange (somehow).
