Nanduti 1 Class -- re try [Edited post]

Ripped out a LOT.   Giving another try.   (EDITED post)

I was not happy with the large circle or knotted flowers.   Thought there was too much - squished too many stitches in too small of a circle.

Ripped a lot out and gave another 'go'.   Knotted flowers changed to woven petals.  Larger 'grid' to practice the motif of woven/knotted areas.

(3 flower cluster DMC #12, Col 794 blue, 223 Rose, 676 Gold); outside ring 676 Gold, 316 Rose, 503 green; 2 Leaf made with DMC 928 & DMC 503; lg circle 316 rose, 676 grid/knots)

Practice on the flowers - they all need rings of knots near the outside circle.
single circles / floral:  Anchor 12, Col. 0968 and 0969.

The circle was challenging - Now that I have the hang of it.  I laced a new piece of fabric on a frame to try the circle pattern again.   Will try larger circle with grid / outside ring.   Maybe it will look better now that I understand the patterns.

Nanduti Medallion Class

It is a start of the Nanduti Medallion Class.  Instructor Dawn Loving. We have several sessions to learn the patterns for each segment.   Virtual Education thru The Lace Museum.

I'm using Anchor Pearl cotton 12, Col. 1011 & DMC coton perle 12, Col. 3823.

Before the next class I will try to have two circles filled in. [Torre (tower) and Vaka Pysape (cow hoof) patterns].

It is exciting to learn new patterns in the circles and rings.  Should be an exceptional project once completed.

Prep for upcoming Nanduti Medallion:

Preparing for the next sessions of Nanduti thru the Lace Museum's virtual education classes.  This series of classes will be on a larger frame and fabric. Nanduti Medallion pattern taught by Dawn Loving.  link here.  I prepared 2 pieces of muslin fabric and used DMC Baroque Crochet Cotton to lace onto the frame.

Nanduti Lace is a traditional Paraguayan lace:

I am still working on patterns from  past sessions.  I pulled them out last night and was amazed at how delicate they look (as WIPs).   It is a lot to learn (for me), even with an excellent instructor!    Perhaps this larger pattern will be easier to navigate.  And the sessions will be q o week instead of weekly.

So, I have some time to put in more fiber - before the next sessions start in April.

I could not participate in these sessions without the support of my DH -- he knows how engrossed I get with textile art, community art projects, and learning new techniques.  Hours pass and I'm still at it into the wee hours of the morning.   PLUS, grateful to friends who have extra fibers in their stash to gift me - and organic beeswa from my girlfriend's spouse (from his bee hives).

I filled in my Lace Bingo card and emailed to Kelli Slack.

I've been using perle coton fiber to create the patterns.  Putting finishing touches on the snowflake.  (where needle is).   Will try to get the 'edge' of the circle / knots, done tonight.

Nanduti patterns for Christmas

Creating the large circle (2.5") with knots.   Pattern is an Avati poty inspired design to make a snowflake.  I'm using DMC coton perle 12, Color 3823.  I made two of the 6 snowflake spokes.  And I'm wondering if I should make the outside rim in the same color - or use one of the greens or red.   Decisions.

Nanduti Patterns for Christmas

Creating the large circle (2.5") with knots.   Pattern is an Avati poty inspired design to make a snowflake.  I'm using DMC coton perle 12, Color 3823.

As for the other two smaller (1.5") circles:
I added an edge of red knots
using DMC Coton Perle No. 8, Color 321.   This is an Arapaho Joaju pattern - made to create a ring of holiday leaf.

I added an edge of green knots using DMC Coton Perle No. 8, Col. 890 - which is similar to the Anchor evergreen color (0218).  This was on the little flower design.  The petals remind me of a french manicure.

Nanduti Patterns for Christmas

I added some leaf designs in one circle (evergreen)
Anchor Pearl Cotton 12, Col. 0218, Lot 3079.

Also added petals to little flower in Red.
DMC 321, No. 8 Perle Coton.

Both will have knot edge in either red or green / both / white???

The white larger circle is for a snowflake which I haven't started yet.

Sounds like next group of sessions will begin in Feb/March 2026.

Prep / tatted edges

In addition to 'prep' for Christmas theme Nanduti sessions, Virtual Education thru The Lace Museum,  ( https://the-lace-museum-shop.myshopify.com/ ), I pulled out my travel tatting.  Time to add more fiber to the shuttles.

"Blue" edge is now 22.5" - Lizbeth #661, Size 20.
The "Tangerine/green" edge is now 19" - Flora 20, Color 09 & Lizbeth #684, Size 20.

The Lace Wood Edge Keeper is from
A Twisted Picot.  I have a few of them - they keep the tatting from tangling up.

These basic patterns are available on the Lafayette Lacemaker's blog, under "Patterns by Members" tab.

Tatted Edges are nice to keep nearby - and they continue to fill in those times when 'waiting' or traveling.
