I use a couple basic patterns -- (lower part of the photo - I just draw them out & see how they look). And basic patterns from this book, from the Palmetto Tatters group. Jennifer Wiliams has a nice patern, Ring of Tatters site -- on https://www.ringoftatters.org.uk/patterns/simple_butterfly.html.
I was creating some tatted butterflys during a recent Demonstration. I was attaching them to my pincushion while tatting. (right side of the photo). A good way to use of fiber bits on shuttles & once empty, can load them for the next motif/project.
Time to empty shuttles. Lace Samples for the Lafayette Lacemakers.
I turn them into the Indiana Lace Chapter, https://lafayettelacemakers.blogspot.com/, Lafayette Lacemakers ... The lace samples are attached to chapter business cards and distributed at public events.
