From the Netherlands, Fish shape tatting shuttle..
ETSY store:   https://www.etsy.com/shop/Banyek.

The enameled copper butterfly piece,
is Butterfly Tatted Edging Pendant.
Up next on my table.   The instructions in the kit,
c.2020 Gretchen L. Miller,
encourages tatters to "personalize your butterfly as you tat".  Suggested adding seed beads - create bead picots for sparkle, change picot lengths.    So, I'm trying to be creative,
searching thru my beads - and I find this elegant HDT by Marilee, (Blog:  https://yarnplayertats.blogspot.com/) HDT fiber: Link to Marilee's new on line store.
https://goimagine.com/marileestatting/.   Thinking I may use
Marilee's HDT and see how it comes out.

The little motif, in photo, from Motifs for Marie.
Motif #23.   Lizbeth size 20, Col. 185.
This charming book (copyright Kaye B. Judt 2009) has
many small motifs.   As far as I am aware, can
still be purchased thru tatting stores/vendors.

The Evening Star Quilt Guild of Anderson IN decided to use tatted motifs for flower centers in their quilt.
The "Marie" is Marie Webster - home in Marion, IN.  I
have not been there. https://quiltershalloffame.net/.

 I've been doing
well emptying shuttles of fiber left overs on the tatting shuttles.
Still have a few to go ....
I turn them into the Indiana Lace Chapter, https://lafayettelacemakers.blogspot.com/, Lafayette Lacemakers ... The lace samples are attached to chapter business cards and distributed at public events.

Complete Book of Tatting by Rebecca Jones

On the left, a butterfly pattern based on one found in Complete Book of Tatting by Rebecca Jones (p.71)  -- on the right Jon Yusoff's dragonfly pattern.    link to pattern HERE

I may have tatted more - from this book.   I am 100% sure I used it for reference many times.

I had to see if I had photos of the tatting I made from Rebecca Jones book.   And I do, have photos.  I think it might have been the first tatting book I ever purchased.   For information on any of these pieces, see the link below.

Butterfly

Probably my favorite thing to tat .... simple butterfly.   Especially fun to use up bits of fiber left on the shuttles!

Top left, blue thread ( upholstery thread sample from Diana aka Lace Lovin' Librarian) + blue delica beads.
Top right - double wound two size 20 Lizbeth fibers  &  beads { shuttle emptying }.
Lower left, double wound size 20 Lizbeth & blue upholstery thread sample.
Lower right, Spooky Size 10, Yarnplayer's HDT & beads.

What fun!   A small key chain w/tatting inserted.   Part of a gift from Diane.   She is generous, shared part of her stash!    If you check her blog, you'll see her tatted keys.   Now that she gifted a key, I'll need to give it a try ; )

I use my own pattern (in the side bar of this blog),  Carol's butterfly.

If you are new to tatting, a step by step can be found here:  https://lafayettelacemakers.blogspot.com/p/carols-butterfly.html

Or, I tat simple floral doodles.   Tat up quickly and nice way to empty shuttles!

Tollway Tatters

Last Friday, the Tollway Tatters gathered.  Please visit Lace-Lovin' Librarian (blog) for more info and photos.   It is a fun, creative time with oodles of chatting,

sharing tatting fibers, sharing glass pieces for tatted ice drops (my color selection tripled), gifting hand made tools (see the needle w/tatted tail for un-knotting), sharing charms,
talking about the latest shuttles (ie Clover Japan, acrylics by Rita, shapes, sizes) ,  snacking, and gifts!!!

Sunlit shuttle embellished by Denise.    Had been in a copper color 'egg' container w/goodies.

Nice to catch up on the news and always ...  tatting.  For me, emptying shuttles.

Lace-lovin' Librarian aka Diane, put several origami pouches together (rainbow of colors) a few years back.    She thought we could embellish them with tatting!      I selected a green one, and realized, once home, that I gift most of my tatting and didn't have much for the bag ; )

Fast forward . . . when my MIL passed away, she seemed to keep all the tatting I ever made for her in small frames and a special box (I stitched the top).    First Step pattern is by Genny Morrow.

I pulled out the origami pouch, fused the tatting, added a (made by Diane) crochet button, a few beads and charms ... and before I knew it, the whole thing was covered!
main parts of the bag .....

 the sides ......

these are the sides with pocket flap pulled up.   LL pin and IOLI pin.

On April 7th, I went to the International Quilt Festival. The quilts were incredible!
Beautifully / artfully displayed.     Among the cool things in the many booths ...  I purchased 2 beige shuttles ...

they were pretty scruffed and dirty w/awful gritty fiber.    So, I cleaned them up a bit!

I also found a vintage pattern book.

need to get a few 'promised' items made up and mailed this week.   Happy Spring.

Tatting and Tools/Toys

Over-the-Moon with my new TSA shuttles.    The TSA group is on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/tattingshuttleaddicts/ - Tatting Shuttle Addicts.   I have learned a lot about different types of tatting shuttles.    NAG Studio [Needle Arts Goddess] has an Eddie shuttle design in Maple for sale thru her ETSY store.   These shuttles are to commemorate TSA's two years.   btw --Anybody can purchase the Eddie / maple shuttle and can opt for personalized engraving.   With or without hook.

I noticed on FB, The Tatting Corner / Jennifer  posted:    " I have a special request for small tatted or laced butterflies. We are vending at Annie's Craft Festival October 30-November 1st and would like to include a small butterfly to each flier that we hand out to encourage more folks to keep this wonderful art form going. "    She would like them by 10/28 ... Started a few last night ---

Repeating ....  I really adore these Tulip Etimo lace hooks.   While I hesitated to purchase the set -- I am so glad I went ahead with the order.    The roll up is nice + closes with a magnet.   The hooks are nice sizes for lace.   I also added my favorite Carrickmacross  lace scissors, knitting pin, Susan Bates yarn needle, a couple double point knitting [sock?] needles, and LACIS crochet hook.   The cotton candy embroidery scissors have been my 'go to' recently!

Edited to add:    Scissors also known as Steeking Scissors at Knit Picks.  Thx Diane!!!

This is my re-tat of Leaping Lambies pattern by Karey Solomon.   You may remember my first attempt?   [in a previous post]

A few doodles for Lafayette Lacemakers - to be handed out at community events.
